The Tracking Project

John Stokes & Kale Ka’alekahi Podcasts

This new exciting feature of our website presents my conversations with Kale Ka’alekahi on the island of Maui.

Kale, who lives in Kula, came to The Tracking Project’s Tree of Peace planting at the Ha’iku ‘Aina Permaculture Initiative (HAPI) in April 2017. He brought a beautiful and powerful chant to the tree. Since that time, he has taken part in other meetings and spiritual conversations with our HAPI circle of kupuna , offering chants, blessings and knowledge.

In addition to being a performer, chanter, musician and a guide, he is a cultural / spiritual activist.

As Kale and I had more time together, we began to share stories about Maui, about cultural sites in the Pacific region like Marae Taputapuatea on the island of Raiatea, about Native American traditions on the mainland… and Kale saw the richness of our discussions. He felt that others would benefit from hearing the stories we were sharing.

So, in December 2019 he brought his recording equipment to HAPI and we recorded a few hours of conversation. Here are the first podcasts Kale has produced. We hope you enjoy them. I’m sure there will be many more to come.
